Guests:  Callum Pickles and Trey MacDonald

At the December TecSocial we will interview two young programmers who are leading the development of their second commercial software product.

Tray MacDonald & Callum Pickles

Their first product was FileScanX.  The program would scan for missing or damaged files and then automatically search Google to find a solution or a replacement file to fix the error.  The program caught the attention of Microsoft where a $40,000 sale was nearly consummated.  FileScan X also saw the pair win the Information/Computer Technology Award and capture the first prize in the Junior Division of the 2012 Cape Breton Regional Science Fair.  The junior title earned them a trip to the Canada Wide Science Fair where they earned a bronze medal in the Computer Technology division.

Their next project, currently in development, is a program and mobile app to help curb cyber-bullying.

Callum is a 14 year old from Coxheath, NS and a grade nine student at MacLennan Junior High School.  He's an avid programmer with experience in:  html, java, visual basic, c++ and assembly. When not coding, Callum can be found playing hockey (CB County Bantam AA) or pounding on the drums.

Tray is 15 years old and hails from Frenchvale, NS.  He's a grade nine student at MacLennan Junior High School. He has programming experience in: html, c++, visual basic and php.  In his spare time Tray enjoys football, soccer and music.

TecSocial is a monthly meeting for those with an interest in technology and entrepreneurship. It is a free event and is open to the public.  A cash bar will be available and door prizes and appetizers (limited quantities) are compliments of our partners, NextGen (a program of Cape Breton Partnership) and Membertou Trade & Convention Centre.
