45Drives is probably the quickest growing company you've never hear about. They offer the most customizable, affordable large storage solutions on the planet.  And they deliver in two or three days, from Sydney, Nova Scotia.

45Drives is a division of Protocase that got its start when the folks over at Backblaze revealed how you could build cheap cloud storage, in an article called "Petabyes on a budget." That's right, they totally "open sourced" how to build a massive storage pod. They've updated the design twice since then, doubling and tripling the storage capacity. Among the mentioned suppliers on the materials list was an enclosure company called Protocase. The orders started to roll in.

Come out to the March TecSocial to hear the rest of the story and how they now fully build and test terabytes of storage for companies like Netflix.

Doug Milburn will be our tour guide for the evening. He co-founded Protocase in 2001 with Steve Lilley. In addition to chairing the board of directors, he is vice president and responsible for R&D as well as sales and marketing.  Doug is a native of Sydney, has a B.Sc. (Honours, Physics) from Mount Allison University, as well as M.Sc. (Physics) and PhD (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Waterloo.

TecSocial is a monthly meeting for those with an interest in technology and entrepreneurship. It is a free event and is open to the public. A cash bar will be available and door prizes and appetizers (limited quantities) are compliments of our partners, Innovacorp and Membertou Trade & Convention Centre.
